Ya missed this one while away last weekend I guess! I hooked up with Crowned at the NEC Conveention which is just around the corner from where he lives,,,,always nice to catch up.
They are looking good James,,,the males from this location are exceptional,,,looking very close to Maingano males,,,but the females are a nice contrast in yellow/orange.
Are they producing fry yet?

Cheers,Larry

Male definitely look a lot like the Maingano. Hard to tell in the pic but he looks a little taller in the body than a Maingano.

Great looking fish.

Thanks all.

Larry: No spawning yet I think the females are still a little young. although with 4 of them I'm sure I'll hip deep in fry in a few months.

Dragon keeper: The photo is a little misleading (he's just fat). I've kept Wild mainganos before and i would say the biggest difference is the head profile. Male Mainganos (cyaeorhabdos) are more "square headed". The male johannis are more reminiscent of female mainganos. I would say the contrast is a little better on mainganos. These fish are still quite young and def. not overly Dominanat in the tank (yet) The colors or profiles may change as the fish matures. The females have def. become a more intense yellow over the weeks.
Here's my old Maingano Male in full breeding colors (notice the over all blue sheen) which seems to be absent in the johannis.

Heres a more recent pic of the johanni male you can spot the diff.

Cheers
James
