I have been checking in on this site now and then and I have noticed that there hasn't been anyone posting anything. Did everyone move to other cichlid keeping forum sites or what? dry.gif Compared to what this site used to be, it is now more like a ghost town.

This is the first notification I have had from this site in months.
Since fb is so popular I think most have moved there,,,and opened their own pages,,,to bad about that, there are a lot of idiots that rant on about fish and to me, it seems harder to get correct information.
I visit some of the sites that people sign me up for but after a while its just BS, so I delete their site from my list,,,it just adds more BS to my postings!

Cheers,Larry

I get where you are coming from. There are some forum sites on my side of the States that I periodically visit, more to just read and get a feel for the members that are posting and how they reply. The question often comes to my mind, Do I really want to post anything on this site. It seems that if a questions is asked, via posting, that is usually basic knowledge for the more experienced hobbyist, but not for the novice hobbyist, that the regular posters pounce and criticize the novice hobbyist because they feel that the question posted is a stupid one and that everybody should know the answer, because to them, it is basic knowledge. And heaven forbid if your answer doesn't agree with the consensus of the everyday poster. Then it is you that is under attack!

I saw one posting by a member asking a simple question a couple of years ago, I still remember it to this day. There was a fellow hobbyist having problems with some of his or her fish getting sick. Other members that replied were suggesting different medications that this person should try using. She asked, "Why doesn't anyone recommend salt as a way of treating fish ailments anymore?" The Administrator and some of his fellow constituents crucified her to the point that she ended up leaving the site. I ended up meeting her some time after all of this happened. I actually purchased a used tank from her. I didn't know that it was her until it came up in some casual conversation and we got to talking about some of the forums over here on the eastern side of the states. She actually seemed like a very knowledgeable hobbyist and was a very nice person.

Did get very quiet here for a while, probably a couple of months. Kept checking in when I could and a lot of the time no one else had been here. Have had some spells myself where I haven't been around much due to some of the things I've had to contend with lately.

The big one was there was a fire in the town nearby (we're in a rural area) where my wife's business was that more or less burned down four buildings, including seven businesses and a dozen apartments. Started two buildings away from where my wife was but burned the building she was in to the ground. Meant her business was disrupted, that we had to find another location, and the place she's moved to is a nice location but needed a lot of restoration, most of which we did ourselves. Since I have a chronic health issue, that and the winter we've been having has finally caught with my health lately and I haven't been checking as much in February.

One interesting thing is we had a fish tank in her shop with a few of my Kapampa, including a big male we call 'Moose' who's something of a local celebrity. We got the fish out ok during a lull in the fire (lost the tank itself, though), but so many people were inquiring whether Moose survived that they announced on the local radio station that we had gotten him out and he was doing ok. At some point we'll probably set him up in a new tank in the new shop-- after the weather gets nicer and I'm up to the project and we recover from the expense of the renovation, etc....

Yeah, that kills me. Or the guys that attack the original poster if they decide to do anything different from what they personally recommended-- like, why did you ask the question if you won't do what I say?-- as though no one has the right to get more than one opinion and then decide for themselves what to do or which advice to follow... Or the guys that complain when someone asks a question because "that's been answered here before and you should do a search through our archives before wasting our time with your stupid questions".

I deleted, if my memory is right, New Jersey Cichlids, New York Cichlids, Queens Cichlids, Angry Cichlids (a real GEM!, NOT) and the others I can't remember because they were not noteworthy either angry.gif
I still belong to a large number of sites, but most that are named above, just clutter up my news feeds with people I don't even know.
Here you on this site you can get the sense of who's helping you and how sincere they are,,,you don't get that on fb pages/sites. Most of those idiots would be banned here, with their obscene comments.

Cheers,Larry

I've only ever registered on maybe 6 forums and some of those I spend little to no time on anymore. But, yeah, kills me how rude some people are.

I'm not sure who owns this site now.
I cannot figure,,,how you buy this site from someone else and then apparently disappear!

Larry :)
