thanx everyone, these guys were like "dream wish fish" for me. i get goose bumps over the big mean nasty preadator haps. my ultimate fish would be a trio of tyrannochromis macrostoma...any fish thats named TYRANNOCHROMIS sends my testosterone into over drive.LOL i'm looking for another female, but she would have to be around six inches long just to survive in that tank. "skraeling" hes every bit of nine inches in length, and eats like an oscar. lighteneing fast strikes and lots of food bits floating around after hes through. water quality in this tank is a number one priority. as soon as i get the female holding, i'll get some pics. i'll move her into a holding tank that i'm gonna have to set up. i've got another thirty gallon in storage. i'll just take water out of the 90 when i do my water change, that way it will be the same and hopfully not stress her to much. i'm not a fan of stripping fish, but since this is her first spawn i'll probably strip her at about fifteen days. i dont want to take a chance of her getting to far down weight wise. and i dont know how these guys are about eating the young. they are a piscavore and eat just about any thing with fins that i put in their tank.

Nice pic...I really love those fish...too bad I don't have the tank space. Sounds like you can't put other fish in with them...that might be a problem for me...I do love a nice community.

i have to admit that i had labs in with them for a long time. the chrystis ate the fry and got fat and happy. when they got to breeding size i moved the labs so that there wouldnt be as many distractions. as soon as they are done spawning, i'll move the labs back for dither fish. that way the feamle wont be the focal point of the males attention. i hope that they do good, this is the first big african predator that i have had. if the ywork out, i'll be getting some more hopefully.
