one of my bulbs blew today so my husband went down to the local pet store to get a new one. They only had reptile lights there and the manager said the Repti-Glo 2.0 would be good for our tank. Im not sure. It says for reptile use only right on the bulb. it has a 6700K colour temp. 20W daylight
is it safe to use on my tank? could I put it on for a few days?

The guy is being a jerk and wont give refunds and said it will take 3 or more days for the proper bulb to be ordered.

thanks crowned! Do you know how much or how little UVB light cichlids need? When I called big als to ask them their opinion they told me not to use it because the UVB is higher than what they need, but its a low grade bulb... sigh.... stupid local pet store. sigh... stupid snow storm that made us go to the stupid local pet store.

Gotta love prompt customer service. They did not mention UVA/UVB, but then again I did not specifically ask.....

Here is Hagen's response-

Q: Can a repti-glo 2.0 bulb be used on an aquarium?

A: We thank you for taking the time to contact us.

In regards to your email it would not be recommended to use this bulb with an aquarium setup. This bulb is recommended for reptile and amphibian use. We do manufacture full spectrum light bulbs for aquarium use. The Repti Glo bulb will give off more heat than a aquarium bulb and could cause a spike of algae in your tank. Hope this information is helpful.

Thanks again Crowned!
I wish the store would've had aquarium bulbs in stock and then we couldve avoided this whole situation. They guy swore up and down it was going to be fine on our tank. We have a full grown Livingstoni Male in there and I dont want to hurt him! Some people shouldn't own and run pet stores.... maybe one day I'll open up my own fish store and get Larry to run it for me! LOL
Thanks for digging around for me, I'll leave the light in the box and call the pet store yet once again to fight for my money back!

is it a chain or independent store? Petco or petsmart? If so they should def be able to take it back. And if they give you more problems have crowned forward you that email and explain to a MANAGER that their employees are giving out bad advice and not being accomodating. I worked in retail for years it will work.

Ohhh you gotta be kidding. Is he an assistant or the store manager. Any way to pass him up the chain of command ladder.

If you dont wanna deal with him again, I would write a very nice letter to the corporate office (ruffinsadmin@execulink.com) stating your experience. Mention you asked for his help and when you wrote the manufacturer they advised against and you asked for a refund. The corporate office will probably be very accomodating.

oh wow so anything you say will be falling on deaf ears lol. You gotta hate stubborn people that think they know the facts when they don't. Well they may own that location but nobody in a corporate office will approve of poor customer service in one of their stores.
